5 a day and Weekly Reviews

This article covered lots of interesting points, and allowed me to consider how this matches with good practice I have witnessed. My GCSE History teacher had us use weekly reviews with a structured 10 minute slot each week in which we attempted an exam question - usually linked to the module we were studying, but could often throw back to older sections of learning. This allowed all of us to see our progress, learn areas we needed to work on, and the writing style for exams became second nature. She had very high achievement levels, and this is something I can look into including on the English course.

Principle 1 could also be evidenced in a 5 a day style activity, in which each lessons begins with 5 simple questions that ask the learner to recall lessons from across different parts of the course.
